Companion to the Privacy Policy and Trust & Security.

FinLens collects a customer's financial documents from their own email, with their permission, and hands them to the one business that asked for them. It is a product of Value Garage Private Limited, a company incorporated in India.

1. What FinLens does

A business a customer is already dealing with needs documents from them — bank statements, a mutual fund account statement, an insurance policy. Instead of asking the customer to find and upload those files, that business sends FinLens four identity fields (name, PAN, date of birth, mobile) and the document types it needs, and gets back a link to pass on.

The customer is then asked twice. Google's own screen asks them to allow FinLens read-only access to their Gmail. A FinLens page then names the receiving business by its registered name, lists the document types and states how far back we look. Nothing is fetched until they approve on that second page.

What we fetch is narrow by construction: only PDF attachments, only from senders in a curated registry of financial institutions, with the limit applied when we ask Gmail rather than after. The business receives the documents themselves, plus the data read out of them, on a link that stops working after three hours — after which everything we produced is deleted.

The Google side of it

FinLens accesses Gmail through gmail.readonly. No other Google scope is requested. Read-only means FinLens cannot send, change, label or delete mail. The application named on Google's consent screen is FinLens; the entity behind it is Value Garage Private Limited; and finlenstech.com is its home page. Verification of that application has not been granted — see §4.

FinLens's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The Privacy Policy takes each requirement in turn, under Google user data & Limited Use.

Where it stops, honestly. Passwords are derived from the four identity fields the business already holds, and some statements are keyed off none of them — HDFC savings, Yes Bank and Canara use a Customer ID, SBI Card and HDFC credit cards the card number, LIC and most life insurers the policy number. Those documents are delivered unopened, naming the identifier that would have worked, rather than dropped or guessed at. A file the customer asked us to fetch is still a file they asked for.

2. Who it is for

Regulated businesses in India that ask their customers to upload financial documents — a lender, an insurer, a broker or a similar firm. If a company's onboarding, servicing or claims flow contains a step that says upload your last six months of statements, that step is the one FinLens replaces.

The document already exists and the institution that issued it already sent it. To satisfy that upload step, a customer has to find the mail, remember which identifier opens the PDF, download it and upload it somewhere else — or go back to a net-banking portal and generate the statement again. None of that produces a better document than the one already in the inbox, and the alternatives it tends to produce — screenshots of net-banking, a shared password, a PDF forwarded onward through several hands — are worse for the customer than a read-only grant that names its recipient and can be withdrawn.

The relationship is deliberately narrow on both sides. A business receives documents for one customer, for the document types that customer approved, on one expiring link. It never receives the mailbox: no Google credential, no token and no standing access. And it receives nothing at all until the customer has approved that named business on a FinLens page.

Value Garage Private Limited decides how a mailbox is read, what is extracted and how long anything is kept, and asks the customer's permission directly on the FinLens page. The business that receives the documents makes its own decisions about them afterwards, under its own policy and its own regulator. How that divides between the two is set out in the Privacy Policy.

4. Where this is today

FinLens is pre-launch. Every line below is separately checkable, and each is stated here rather than left for someone to discover in a trial.

QuestionAnswer as of 11 August 2026
Is the service live?No — the platform runs in a test environment, not in production.
Has Google verification been granted? No — the consent screen still carries an unverified-app warning.
Is any partner business live?No — FinLens has not delivered a document to any client.
Has a customer's mailbox been read?No — no partner's customer has used this. Our own mailbox has been read in testing.
Is the sender registry complete?No11 of 187 senders are verified; the other 156 issue no queries at all.
Is any security certification held?No — no independent assessment has been started or completed.

The mostly inert registry is deliberate, not an oversight. Queries are built from verified entries only, and promotion to verified needs a real message header captured from an actual message — Indian institutions do not publish their sending addresses, so there is no shortcut and we have not invented one. An unconfirmed sender that silently never matches is easier to reason about than one that quietly matches the wrong mail.

The full version of this list, control by control, is on the Trust page under what is not true yet — the things a security page is usually expected to assert, each against what exists in its place.

5. What FinLens is not

Each of these describes a product FinLens could have been and is not. Several are enforced by code rather than by policy — see Trust & Security for the mechanisms.

  • Not a mailbox integration a business gets to keep. No credential, no token and no standing access ever crosses to a client. The interface anything leaves through has no field for one.
  • Not an analysis or scoring product. What we return is machine-read out of the document — account holder, account or policy number, statement period, balances, holdings. It is not analysis, judgement or opinion, and the source PDF governs if the two ever disagree.
  • Not a data broker. Documents reach the one business the customer approved by name and reach nobody else. We do not sell data, and there is no other category of sharing.
  • Not a general email product. Only PDF attachments, only from recognised financial senders, and the limit is applied at the query — so personal mail is never retrieved rather than retrieved and discarded.
  • Not a consumer app. There is no FinLens account, no end-user login and no dashboard. A customer's only relationship with us is the consent page and the addresses in §6.
  • Not a financial institution. Value Garage Private Limited is not a bank, an NBFC or an insurer. It holds no customer money and gives no financial, tax or legal advice.

One more, which belongs here rather than in a footnote: no person at FinLens reads a customer's mail or their documents. Text is extracted by a self-hosted engine inside our own containers, with no third-party document-processing vendor anywhere in the pipeline and no human-in-the-loop step to fall back on.
